According to Korean media TheElec report, Samsung Display will become the exclusive supplier of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels used by Apple in the two highest-level models of its next-generation iPhone.

Both models of the iPhone 13 will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panels manufactured by Samsung Display.

Apple’s iPhone 13 will have four models, and all models will use OLED panels. The first two models will use LTPO OLED that can support a 120Hz refresh rate.

It is reported that LG Display will not be able to provide LTPO OLED to Apple this year, but it is under development and is expected to be available to Apple in 2022.

Samsung Display provided LTPO OLED for Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note20 Ultra for the first time last year. Samsung calls it "adaptive frequency" technology or mixed oxide and polysilicon (HOP).

Samsung Display hopes to transfer some of its A3 production lines in Asan to LTPO TFT. The monthly production capacity of this production line is 105,000 sheets. About 60,000 of them will be transferred to LTPO TFT.

Apple plans to use LTPO OLED in all iPhone models launched in the second half of 2022.
