It is reported that after Panasonic's liquid crystal display (PLD) business exits, its LCD panel manufacturing plant in Hyogo Prefecture will be transformed into a car battery factory.

Previously, Panasonic had built an 8.5-generation LCD production line in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, but due to production cost considerations, the utilization rate of this Panasonic LCD production line was not high. Coupled with the cyclical fluctuations in the panel market in recent years and the price drop, Panasonic's LCD panel business continues to lose money, and it is not difficult to understand the exit at this time. However, Panasonic has not completely given up on the display business. In the field of new panels such as OLED, Panasonic will continue to follow up.

With the rise of land-based panel manufacturers and the centralized release of production capacity, it has become a common choice for Japanese and Korean panel manufacturers to withdraw from the LCD panel business. Among them, Samsung has accelerated its QD-OLED production line layout by shutting down LCD, while LGD has chosen to switch to OLED panels. From the perspective of technological inflection or market competition, the traditional LCD panel market is no longer suitable for these manufacturers. Either continue to lose money, or transform, traditional panel manufacturers can make few choices.
