Company News >> LCD panels up 60% in half a year, Samsung extends factory closure plan

This year, 618 may be the lowest price of LCD TVs, and then LCD panel prices began to rise sharply, at least 60% in the past six months. Samsung previously announced the closure of the LCD panel factory at the end of the year, but now the situation has changed. Samsung has decided to extend the LCD factory closure plan indefinitely.

In the field of LCD panels, in recent years, as domestic companies have increased their production capacity and technology, Korean and Japanese panel makers, which previously occupied the leading position, have encountered fierce price competition and declining profits.

In the end, both Samsung and LG decided to withdraw from LCD panel production, or at least shut down factories in Korea. Samsung plans to withdraw by the end of 2020 and completely close its L8 LCD panel factory in Asan, South Korea.

However, in the past six months, the LCD panel market has changed. On the one hand, demand has risen sharply. On the other hand, Japanese and Korean companies have reduced production or exited, which has led to expectations. LCD panel prices have continued to rise, rising by 60% in the past six months, making it profitable again. .

Previously, it was rumored that Samsung had postponed the closure of its LCD factory in South Korea until March next year. The latest news is that Samsung has decided to extend the factory closure plan indefinitely, in other words, it will not be closed in the short term.

Samsung is still an important LCD panel factory, and now it has announced that it will no longer close the factory, which has also brought variables to the LCD panel market and will increase competition.

However, Samsung's LCD production capacity no longer accounts for the majority. At present, 55% of the global LCD production capacity is owned by several domestic companies, including the largest BOE, TLC Huaxing Optoelectronics and so on.
