South Korean companies represented by Samsung are now basically giving up LCD panel production, while Samsung has turned to more powerful QD-OLED panel.

 

QD-OLED refers to the OLED panel with QD quantum dot technology, and OLED corresponds to the LCD panel technology type, which is self-luminous, lighter and thinner, and has better viewing angle and response time. The cost is high cost and difficult mass production. It is also possible to burn the screen.

 

Samsung is a king-level leader in the field of OLED panels. The production capacity of small and medium-sized OLED panels accounts for 90% of the world. The field of large-sized OLED panels is now catching up with QD-OLED.

 

The so-called QD-OLED is to use the QD quantum dot technology in QD-LCD on the OLED panel. Under the framework of the original OLED screen, an additional light-emitting layer is added, which emits blue light through blue OLED, and red and green quantum The red light and green light are combined to form the three primary colors of RGB.

 

Based on this advantage, the OLED material in the QD-OLED panel only needs to emit one color, which greatly reduces the cost and manufacturing difficulty of the panel.

 

At the same time, QD-OLED has higher color gamut coverage and more accurate color performance. It is easily 100% NTSC, 130% sRGB color gamut, etc., with obvious picture quality advantages.

 

At present, Samsung also maintains the lead in the QD-OLED field. In October 2019, it announced that it would spend 11 billion US dollars to transform the original LCD panel production line into a QD-OLED production line.

 

Samsung previously stated that it will officially mass-produce QD-OLED panel TVs in 2021, but has not given a specific time. The latest news is that energy production will be as soon as Q3 next year. In addition to Samsung, Sony will also purchase. This type of panel is used in the manufacture of new generation TVs.
