Company News >> Truly 50.88 million US dollars to purchase Samsung's fifth-generation TFT-LCD production line 3rd,May,2018
Truly International announced that the company’s indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Truly Semiconductors, and Samsung have entered into an L5-equipment sales agreement, pursuant to which Samsung agreed to sell and Truly Semiconductor agreed to purchase equipment for a transaction amount of US$50.88 million.
The equipment that Truly Semiconductor will purchase from Samsung includes certain parts, components, machines and equipment of the fifth-generation TFT-LCD production line and color filter production line.
The capacity of the fifth-generation TFT-LCD production line is approximately 50,000 (1,100 mm x 1,250 mm) continuous color filters per month. The Board considers that the L5-Equipment Sales Agreement was entered into on normal commercial terms and that the terms of the L5-Equipment Sales Agreement are fair and reasonable and in the interest of the shareholders as a whole.
According to reports previously that Samsung will sell its fifth-generation LCD production line and sell LCD panel manufacturing equipment, Samsung will use this fund to expand its OLED production line and transform its L5 plant into an OLED production line.
The L5 production line mainly produces medium and small size LCD panels, such as monitors, notebook screens, 32-inch televisions (parametric picture articles) and other products. However, with the increase in the output of Chinese LCD panel makers, it is difficult for the L5 production line to continue to make profits. For this reason, Samsung gradually reduced the production of small and medium-sized panels, and instead concentrated on 40-inch or larger LCD products.
As for the Samsung OLED production line, which has a certain relationship with Apple's cooperation. It has been reported that Samsung recently negotiated with Apple and intends to supply OLED screens for the iPhone. Like Japan Display, if Apple gets an order, Samsung is likely to add a few production lines for Apple alone.
An industry source said: "If you get Apple's order, Samsung's current A3 OLED production line simply can not meet the demand." Therefore, after the L5 plant into an OLED production line, it is likely to supply the screen exclusively for Apple. In this way, Samsung is expected to surpass LG Display and become Apple's largest screen supplier.
As for the sale of the L5 production line, Samsung has started negotiations with a number of companies. According to Samsung, it takes two to three months to finalize the buyer. According to industry insiders, China's panel maker Trumps is the most likely to win.
Samsung closed the L3 production line in 2011 and closed the L4 production line in 2013. Last year, Samsung sold its CCFL backlit LCD panel production line to the company. Truly photoelectric listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, mainly produces consumer electronics products such as liquid crystal displays and televisions.
