Samsung Electronics dominates the days of smart phone OLED panels? It is reported that LG Display (LGD) will soon start mass production of OLEDs, which may be able to ship to Chinese smartphone makers by the end of this year. In addition, in order to disperse the supplier, Apple also asked whether LGD can share orders for the iPhone next year.
Yonhap News reported on the 16th, industry sources, LGD Gumi Gumi plant's sixth-generation OLED (1,500 × 1,850 mm), the third quarter of mass production, will be available to Chinese smart phone manufacturers by the end of this year, breaking the monopoly of Samsung Electronics status. At present, Samsung's market share in smart phone OLED is as high as 95%.

Apple explored LGD's capacity, investment, etc. to understand whether it could commission LGD to produce OLED panels next year. According to senior LGD personnel, Apple asked LGD if it is willing to fight for Apple's orders for small and medium-sized OLED panels. LGD will decide whether to compete for Apple orders based on OLED production technology, production capacity, and investment amount at the end of June.
Previously, LGD was skeptical about the lack of experience in mass production of small and medium-sized OLED panels, and also worried that the investment amount was too high. However, it is understood that the current trend of smart phone panels has shifted from LGD to OLED. The company believes that if it does not invest quickly, it will lag behind the market.
The production of the GGD sixth-generation OLED line Gumi E5 will be mass-produced in the second half of this year. Display industry sources said that next year the new iPhone with OLED will have an annual sales volume of about 40 million units. The LGD E5 plant will have an annual production capacity of 5.5 million units. Each substrate can be cut into multiple 5.5-inch panels, enough to supply the needs of Apple. Can be sold to Chinese smartphone makers.
